Troubleshooting

View all →

Common Failure Modes

Bending the connector pins or ripping the cord out of the connector housing are the main physical failures. Signal degradation on very long, cheap cables can cause screen flickering or 'snow'.

Maintenance

View all →

Clean the Pins

Dirt or dust inside the connector head can block the delicate high-speed pins, resulting in 'sparkles' on screen or complete signal dropouts.

Inspect Connector Strain

HDMI cables are heavy and wide, putting immense strain on the connector when dangling from a TV. Check for bending to prevent port and cable damage.

Untangle Long Runs

Long HDMI cables coiled too tightly or twisted around power cables suffer from electromagnetic interference and physical wire degradation. Run them cleanly.
